February 13, 14 & 15 2010 Jackson Memorial Visitor Center Open
The Visitor Center at the Paradise Area of Mount Rainier National Park will be open in honor of and to celebrate President's Day weekend. The Visitor Center offers exhibits, a park movie, gifts and food service, and it is open to the public from 10 AM to 5 PM. Also, ranger-led snowshoe walks will be conducted each day at 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM. Walks last about 2 hours, traverse approx. 1.2 miles, and are limited to 25 people (eight years or older) on a first-come, first-served basis. Snowshoes are provided, but a donation of $4 (per pair) is suggested. Warm clothes, hats, mittens, suitable boots, and sunglasses are strongly urged!
May 16 2010 Johnston Ridge Observatory Reopens
The Johnston Ridge Obervatory re-opens from 10 AM to 6 PM daily, seven days a week, staying open through October. Visit the web site for additional information: http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/mshnvm/.
May 28 2010 Opening of Stevens Canyon Road
The re-opening of Stevens Canyon Road in the Mt. Rainier National Park is scheduled for 8 AM on May 28, after extensive repairs required beginning with the flood damage of 2006 and subsequent years/events. Stevens Canyon Road is accessible from State Route 123.
May 28 2010 Annual Packwood Flea Market - Memorial Day Weekend
An annual event that features new and used merchandise from antiques to bargain-priced new items. The bazaar takes place along both sides uf US Highway 12 going through Packwood as well as some side streets; parking is available for modest fees. If you're looking for an obscure item, this may just be the place you'll find it! This Market starts on May 28 and goes through Memorial Day, May 31.
May 28 & September 5 2010 White Pass Country Museum Summer Hours
The White Pass Country Museum starts its summer hours so visitors to the area can take advantage of its treasures, Fridays and Saturdays 11 AM to 4 PM through Labor Day weekend. Arrangements may be made to view the Museum on a day that it is not open by calling 360-494-4007 or 360-494-4031.
June 5 & 6 2010 Free Admission to National Parks
All national parks, national wildlife refuges, and many areas managed by the Bureau of Land Management offer free admission on June 5 and 6, 2010.
June 5 2010 Packwood Goldenspike Motorcycle Race

There is no fee for entering over 100 national parks this weekend; take your family and friends to a national park and enjoy the wonders that all our national parks offer! Go see Mt. Rainier and spend the night in one of Packwood's many great lodging establishments offering hospitality!

A Solo event sponsored by the Northwest Region of the SCCA at the Hampton Mill site located on the West side of Packwood.
July 4 2010 Chicken Bar-B-Q
Sponsored annually by the Packwood Improvement Club and held in the Packwood Community Park behind the Community Hall, this feast starts at 12 noon and goes through 4 PM. The menu includes 1/2 chicken, potato salad or baked potato, baked beans, French bread, dessert, coffee and milk. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Join us for this annual and much anticipated feast!
July 4 2010 FIREWORKS!
To celebrate our nation's birthday, the Randle Fire Fighters sponsor and put on a BIG fireworks show at the White Pass High School in Randle. Everyone is invited to watch the display which starts as soon as the sky is dark.

A journey into the past and the history of Mt. Rainier presented by park rangers and volunteers who assume the characters of people influential in the creation of Mt. Rainier as a National Park and bring to life the story of the mountain. Ranger-led lantern tours depart every 20 minutes between 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM and last approximately 90 minutes. Bring a warm jacket, insect repellant, a flashlight, and wear sturdy shoes. The program is free with the park admission fee. July 19 2010 White Pass Country Historical Society Meeting
The featured presentation of the meeting is "Fire Lookouts of Packwood & Randle," and the public is welcome to attend and learn about the history and significance of these structures in the national forest. The business meeting starts at 6 PM; the presentation at 7 PM. Location of both is the Historical Museum, 12990 US Highway 12, Packwood. July 24 2010 Historical Walking Tour of Downtown Packwood
Presented by the White Pass Country Historical Society, this tour conducted by several of its members provides participants glimpses into the past and into the development of Packwood via its buildings, both residential and commercial. Participants are asked to meet in FRONT OF THE WHITE PASS COUNTRY HISTORICAL MUSEUM, 12990 US Highway 12 in Packwood at 6 PM on Saturday, July 24th.
