May 1 & July 1 2008 SKATE CREEK ROAD/RD 52
Due to record low elevation snowfall over the past several months and several large slides, the Skate Creek Road (Forest Road 52)between Ashford and Packwood, Wash., will be opening later than normal. The Forest Service is aiming for a June opening of the road, probably not until mid-June or later. Updates will be posted as the information is passed on to us, and we apologize for the inconvenience this presents to your travel plans.
May 1 & August 1 2008 *IMPORTANT UPDATE*
Heavy winter snowfalls are delaying forest access. Visitors should anticipate some of their favorite campgrounds opening two - three weeks later than usual and roads and trails above 2000 - 2500 feet under enough snow to be inaccessible. May 3 & September 8 2008 Homestead Public Market
Open every Saturday between May 3 and September 8, 2008, this public market is held at the 1896 Homestead on Highway 12 on the West end of Packwood and features fresh produce from Yakima as well as handcrafted items. May 10 & August 31 2008 Mossyrock Public Market
A public market featuring locally-grown and organic produce and locally handcrafted items. Held every Saturday from 9 AM to 3 PM, May through August, the market is held in downtown Mossyrock; just follow the signs. For additional information visit the web site, mossyrockpublicmarket.com.
May 16 2008 Paradise Inn, Mount Rainier, Re-opens
The historic Mt. Rainier Paradise Inn re-opens after a two-year renovation, the first since it was built. It will open to the public at noon for lunch, and everyone is invited to the 3PM ribbon-cutting ceremony, where cake and coffee will be served.
May 16 2008 Johnston Ridge Observatory Re-Opens
The Johnston Ridge Observatory on Mt. St. Helens will reopen for the summer season on May 16. The visitor center will be open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM. Admission on May 18, the 28th anniversary of the eruption, will be free to the public at both Johnston Ridge and Coldwater Lake Observatories.
May 18 2008 Cayuse Pass, Stevens Canyon Road Re-Open
Cayuse Pass, elev. 4675, will re-open for the summer season, connecting SR 123 with SR 410. Also, the Stevens Canyon Road, accessible from SR 123 and leading to Paradise in Mt. Rainier National Park will re-open to the public, making Mt. Rainier easier to access from the East end of Lewis County.
May 23 2008 Memorial Day Flea Market
This annual event turns the town of Packwood in a huge flea market, one of the largest in the Western US. Hundreds of vendors sell antiques, novelties, clothing, and all kinds of household and decorative items. Tools, toys, and extraordinary finds abound! The market opens on May 23 and ends on the evening of May 26. Come join the fun!
May 23, 24 & 25 2008 Three-Day Country Bluegrass Music Festival
A music festival, free to the public, with four bands and twenty singers entertaining folks on the grounds of the 1896 Homestead RV Campground. Overnight camping is $15/night; parking only is $5, walk-in's are free. Join the fun! Visit web site: www.packwoodonline.com

SCCA events are held at the no-longer-active Hampton Mill site on the West side of Packwood, accessible from US Highway 12.
June 21 & 22 2008 History in Motion, Morton WA
A tribute to history from the perspective of transportation, focusing on trains, classic cars and trucks, motorcycles and even aircraft. Saturday's hours are 10-4, while Sunday's are 10-3.
